Delta Lloyd Cadet Worlds at Medemblik, Holland - Overall

Belgians 2008 World Champions, Joanna Freeman & Holly Francis GBR 9575 placed second

Both fleets launched into an 18 knot north-westerly which strengthened to Force 6 and swung round to the north as the second races of the day progressed.

World Championships

Race 9

After two general recalls, Jiri Paruzek / Katerina Havlova (CZE 9640) led for the first circuit in a close race. By the second Windward, Toon De Hunck / Kamiel Klumpers (BEL 8909) had moved into first place and took the gun, holding off Rodrigo Abalo Martinez / Joaquin Minos Vaniaethem (ESP 9590) in second and the Czech crew in third. Best placed British crews were James Hayward / Alex Warrington (GBR 9631) in 10th, to record their best placing of the series and Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) in 11th.

Race 10

Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) recorded their first victory of the series and the second for the British team. Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) took an initial lead from a port-end start but by the first Windward mark, Freeman and Francis had established a useful lead. Despite challenges from Krzysztof Maklecki / Hubert Krzewinski (POL 9734), Semen Dmytrenko / Serhiy Brtsyyev (UKR 92) and event leaders Quentin Lauwers / Nele De Munck (BEL 8518), the British pair maintained their lead with the Belgians in second and the Polish crew in third. Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) kept up the pressure, finishing 4th.

Being surrounded by hills and mountains has the inevitable effect So far the conditions on Lake Lipno have provided for excellent and challenging sailing, however being surrounded by hills and mountains can mean that the winds are shifty and can be light at time, and this proved to be the case on day 3.
