An excellent turnout of 16 Tasars competed for the Scottish Championships hosted by Pentland Firth Yacht Club over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd August 2008. The event was sponsored by Atomic Energy Authority, Wilburn Homes & Signal Locker. Pete Ellis & Charlotte Burbeck plus Tim & Mayumi Knight made the long trek from the South Coast of England to the North coast of Scotland to join 7 travelling Scottish Tasars and 7 Tasars from the host club.

Race 1 started in a light North Westerly force 1 – 2 with Geoff Henstridge & Mark Johnstone GBR283 leading of the start followed by Pete Ellis & Charlotte BurbeckGBR 2642 & Tim & Mayumi Knight GBR 363. Pete eventually got past Geoff to take first place followed by Geoff in second and Tim taking third. With the wind changing direction to a Westerly,

Race Officer Hank Henstridge did an excellent job re-setting the course and getting the fleet away for race two. Colin & Calum Tait GBR 2833 led round the windward mark in race 2 closely followed by Pete & Charlotte with Tim & Mayumi in third place. Pete pulled through on the second reach to take the lead, which he held to the finish. Tim pulled through into second at the last leeward mark before the finish but Colin managed to pull it back on the beat to the line taking second place with Tim in third.

With the wind falling there was no more racing on the Saturday. An excellent meal was served in the clubhouse on Saturday night with Alastair McDonald playing the accordion and Laura Perry giving a display of highland dancing.

Unfortunately, out of character for the North of Scotland, the wind refused to fill in on the Sunday and no further racing took place. The opportunity was taken to conduct some onshore coaching run by Tim, Pete & Charlotte. Everyone enjoyed the weekend and the Tasar Class looks forward to returning in the future for a traveller event.

Overall Results:

4th Geoff Henstridge & Mark Johnstone (Pentland Firth Yacht Club)
