Delta Lloyd Cadet Worlds at Medemblik, Holland - Day 5

Both fleets launched into an 8 knot westerly wind, with gusts into the low-teens.

Race 7

The British team achieved its first victory of the championships when Will Kennedy / Loni Lilienthal (GBR 8539) crossed the line some 90 seconds ahead of their closest rival. The first start saw a General Recall and on the second attempt, fourteen boats were “Black-Flagged”, including third placed overnight Ivan Cosentino / Augustin Romero (ARG 8010). The British pair held a 20 second lead at the first windward over Tomas Cosentino / Matias Pessallaccia (ARG 8134) and steadily extended their lead throughout the race. The Argentineans held onto second place from Jakub Antoniak / Michal Rola-Janicki (POL 9488), who had featured strongly throughout the race.

British boats were well placed, with Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) in 4th, Alex Horlock / Tim Pearce (GBR 9383) in 5th , Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) in 10th and James Hayward / Alex Warrington (GBR 9631) achieving their best finish of the week in 13th place.

Race 8

Ivan Cosentino / Augustin Romero (ARG 8010) returned to their winning ways with their fourth victory of the event. In a close race the Argentineans took the lead on the final beat to overcome race leaders Delfina Saldana / Javier Cigaina (ARG 8064) with Eliezer Fernandez Alvarez / Javier Perez Martinezi (ESP 9499) in third. Overnight first and second Quentin Lauwers / Nele De Munck (BEL 8518) and Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) battled against each other over the last two legs with the British crew finishing in 9th position, one place ahead of the Belgians.

With the completion of 8 races, a second discard is allowed. At the end of the fifth day, the overall position is 1st BEL 8518 (10pts), 2nd GBR 9575 (19), 3rd ARG 8010 (32), 4th AUS 9012 (33), 5th GBR 9382 (57) and 6th ESP 9590 (64).

Gold Fleet Race 7

Tim Carter / Henry Stone (GBR 9374) and Arthur Henderson / Matthew Currell (GBR 8561) fought a close race with the lead changing hands at the Gybe and the second Windward before the former established a sufficient lead to take the gun. John Page / Alexander Page (GBR 8521) came through to take third from Sophie Dingwall / Josie Gummer (GBR 5000) in fourth.

Gold Fleet Race 8

John Page / Alexander Page (GBR 8521) led from the first Windward to record his third victory with Tim Carter / Henry Stone (GBR 9374) tracking closely to finish second with Will Matthews / Sam Barr (GBR 8847) in third place.

With the completion of 8 races, a second discard is allowed. At the end of the fifth day, the overall positions are 1st GBR 8521 (13pts), 2nd GBR 8513 (15) and 3rd GBR 9374 (19).

Silver Fleet Race 7

James Dodd / Max Crowe (GBR 9673) progressed steadily from 4th place at the first Windward to take the line with Bethany Bridge / James Marsh (GBR 9458) in second and Michal Kliment / Veronika Zivna (CZE 9649) in third place.

Silver Fleet Race 8

Michal Kliment / Veronika Zivna (CZE 9649) was first with Bethany Bridge / James Marsh (GBR 9458) in second place and Australian's Alice Endersbee / Grace Endersbee sailing GBR 9240 in third.

Being surrounded by hills and mountains has the inevitable effect So far the conditions on Lake Lipno have provided for excellent and challenging sailing, however being surrounded by hills and mountains can mean that the winds are shifty and can be light at time, and this proved to be the case on day 3.
