Delta Lloyd Cadet Worlds at Medemblik, Holland - Day 3

Racing began in a Force 5 westerly wind, which strengthened as the day progressed, producing some challenging conditions.

Race 5

Overnight leaders Ivan Consentino / Augustin Romero (ARG 8010) run of first places came to a halt when “Black Flagged” in today’s first race. The first start produced a general recall and at the second attempt, eight boats were over the start line. Quentin Lauwers / Nele De Munck (BEL 8518) seized the chance to improve on their second position overnight and led at the first Windward mark. Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) came off the pin end to move into second place and Sam Vinkier / Thijs Klumpers (BEL 9149) filled the third spot. By the Gybe mark, Harrison Fullard / Henry Field (AUS 9523) had moved into third place and the top three places remained unchanged at the Leeward mark. Tom Kennedy / Ellie Chesterman (AUS 9012) made a move to take third place at the second Windward and by the final Leeward gained a further place to put them behind the Belgians. Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) made a strong challenge on the final beat and broke into the top three places. Quentin Lauwers / Nele De Munck (BEL 8518) scored their first victory of the event, with Tom Kennedy / Ellie Chesterman (AUS 9012) in second and Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) in third. Tom Kinver / Jamie Proffitt (GBR 8511) were placed fourth, with Alex Horlock / Tim Pearce (GBR 9382) in sixth and George Ayre / Nicholas Sutton (GBR 8542) in eighth.

Race 6

Following a further general recall, Quentin Lauwers / Nele De Munck (BEL 8518) led the fleet to the Windward mark followed by Sam Vinkier / Thijs Klumpers (BEL 9149) and Joanna Freeman / Holly Francis (GBR 9575) in third. By the Gybe mark , the Belgian boat had a substantial lead over the British crew and Tom Kennedy / Ellie Chesterman (AUS 9012),who had moved into third place. The Australians continued to push the British crew and by the final Leeward mark had taken second place. The Belgian crew, who were extending their lead at each mark, recorded their second victory of the day. Of the British boats, Alex Horlock / Tim Pearce (GBR 9382) again featured with a 5th place finish.

At the end of the third day the overall position is 1st, BEL 8518, 2nd GBR 9575, 3rd AUS 9012, 4th ARG 8010, 5th GBR 9382 and 6th BEL 9149.

Tomorrow is a lay day.

Promotional Regatta

Racing was abandoned due to the strengthening wind. The two races scheduled for today will take place tomorrow, which had been set aside as a lay day.

Hunting for wind on Lake Lipno As the bright orange sun was starting to set behind the hills surrounding Lake Lipno the fleet of over 100 Cadet boats made their way back towards the beach, some being towed by their support team's RIBs but most with their spinnakers. Posted on 8 Aug

Being surrounded by hills and mountains has the inevitable effect So far the conditions on Lake Lipno have provided for excellent and challenging sailing, however being surrounded by hills and mountains can mean that the winds are shifty and can be light at time, and this proved to be the case on day 3.
