The 2008 Symmetric Hikers Challenge is happening at Datchet Water SC over the weekend of 6th / 7th September. It is sponsored by Xclusia, Harken, Speed Sails, Paintcraft and Fotoboat.

The event, which is open to non-trapeze symmetric boats with a PY less than 1200, is a great chance for everyone from experts to beginners to enjoy two days of racing and socialising with plenty of prizes up for grabs. With so many classes, all of which excel in both the racing and social departments, coming together for the weekend it promises to be a great event.

6 races are scheduled over the weekend with 2 pursuit races and 4 handicap races starting at 1300 on the Saturday. Details on how to get to the club and accommodation can be found on the Datchet Water SC website.

Last year the Scorpion fleet had the biggest turnout with 17 boats ahead of the Kestrels and it was the Merlin Rocket fleet who took overall honours. These 3 fleets are all expecting big turn outs again and this year the Wayfarers and Larks are hoping to mount a strong challenge too. As well as these fleets there is a big local fleet of Flying 15s and the Thames A Rater always provides a spectacle, it just remains to be seen whether the GP14s or Miracles can turn out in force and steal the show.
