Hobie 405 Nationals at Holyhead Sailing Club Practice Day

by Bob Tuckwood 2 Aug 2004 08:25 BST 31 July - 6 August 2004

Glorious weather greated the 16 boats that arrived at Holyhead Sailing Club for the 405 Nationals. Lots of sun block was in evidence as the Junior/youth fleet headed out for the start of the practice race, but the wind was not as strong as the sun.

The fleet got away first time and Emil Petterson and Kennie Neilson pulled out a good lead on Sophie Tuckwood and Holly Jones, with Will Twemlow and Andrew Bath in hot pursuit. Emil and Kenny continued to pull away but then assumed they had finished at the end of lap 2 and Sophie & Holly and Will & Andy gratefully sailed on.

The fleet was busy tusseling for places behind and on the final lap Will and Andy found the wind and overhauled Sophie & Holly but were reluctant to go over the line in first place! Superstition wasn't in the minds of Emil and Kennie who went over the line first. This has been a very promising start for the very enthusiastic 405 fleet, who hope to complete 15 windward leeward races during the week.
