EAORA Janes Cup at Burnham on Crouch

by Tim Cross 10 Jun 2008 08:05 BST 7-8 June 2008

15 boats came to the Branklet Buoy start at Burnham on Crouch for the Association's annual visit to the Medway.

Saturday's race, for the Jane's Cup, started in a solid northerly breeze of 15kts. All three classes started cleanly for the spinnaker reach out of the Crouch. Spinnaker's soon gave way to headsails as boats came closer to the wind on leaving the river before setting again for the predominantly downwind race.

The wind continued to blow throughout the race, unfortunately accompanied by rain at frequent intervals. Only on the final leg, up the Medway to the finish, did the wind drop as a result of shelter from the docks.

Overall, S, J & R Galloway's Elan 40 Titian won class 2 and overall. In class 3, Bob Fawkes' Carter 37 Tigo IV and Tony & Chuffy Merewether's Sunfast 32 Amazon enjoyed an engaging tussle, with Tigo IV just taking 2nd overall and class 3 with Amazon placing 3rd overall. Stan Fenton's J122 Jedi Knight won class 1 and came 5th overall.
