by Steve Proffitt 30 Jul 2004 13:30 BST

Race 7:

With the wind a steady force 2 Easterly the fleet were promptly away. Right middle seemed to pay, with those going left losing out. First to the mark was GBR8435 ‘Blue Moon’ Kate Allam/Amy Yeoman who then proceeded to sail away from the fleet. Unfortunately she was OCS, so first to the mark was NED8411 ‘Rock Hopper’ Niels Dercksen/Leon Smit, followed by GBR8288 ‘Relax’ Jamie Crapnell/ James Harvey Nevin, CZE7070 ‘Houmi’ Lenka Mkzilkova/Hanka Chudejova, GBR8420 Jodie Green, and CZE6470 Petr Fiala. At the leeward mark the chasing lead group rafted together and amid total confusion and yelling managed to round the mark having let in a number of boats. At the windward CZE7070 was first round followed by GBR8855 Jonathon Moss, GBR8570 ‘the Grim Reaper’ Harry Harris/Jessica Quinlan and CZE9470. CZE7070 took the gun from GBR8855, CZE9470 and GBR8570.

The second start saw GBR8515 James Rusden to the windward first followed by GBR8511 ‘Cyclone’ Thomas/Emily Kinver, GBR9374 ‘Total Eclipse’ Hamish Stone/Tim Carter,BEL9453 Yannick Lefefvre and GBR7630 Miles Blaver Mann. Positions were held until the final run leeward mark when the leaders started beating for the line instead of the last reaching leeward. They quickly altered course but GBR9374 took full advantage and just managed to take the gun from GBR8511, GBR8997 David Brewer and GBR8515.

Race 8:

Just as the race was about to take place the sea breeze kicked in and after a delay of an hour the course was set into a Force 3 South westerly. First windward saw GBR 8539 ‘Genesis’ Ben Lyon/Jenny Sudell round first followed by GBR8541’Stress’ Nick Johnson/Chris Sycamore, GBR8420 Jodie Green, SVK9466 Mirdslav Baran and ESP9112 Hugo Fernandez. It was all change at the next windward with GBR9034 Stephen Videlo rounding ahead and clear of SVK9466 and ESP9112. Fourth was GBR9027 Alex Shanahan. The first two remained clear with GBR9034 taking the gun. Third was GBR8997 David Brewer just ahead of GBR8539.

The second start dash to the windward was won by BEL9453 Yannick Lefefvre, second was GBR 8515 James Rusden followed by GBR8561 Tom Makey, NED8411Niels Diercksen, GBR8381 ‘Satisfaction’ Katrina Hughes/Joe Tavinor and GBR9374 Hamish Stone. GBR8561 led BEL9453,GBR8515 and GBR9374 at the final windward mark. With a terrific scrap up the final beat BEL9453 took the gun from GBR8515, GBR8561 and GBR9374.

Race 9:

With the wind picking up to about a force 4 the last race was quickly started. HUN9450 Tama’s Szamo’dy led from start to finish, crossing the line well ahead of the rest. GBR8561 was second until the final leeward mark when BEL9453 Yannick Lefefvre and GBR8420 had got passed him. That is how they finished.

The second start saw a very similar pattern. CZE9470 Petr Fiala led from start to finish. GBR8415 William Rusden was second all the way to the final beat when GBR9046 Andrew Twinn passed him for second place. Fourth was GBR9370 ‘Y Knot’ Stephen Tiernan/Hugo Pullen who had worked their way to fouth at the second windward mark.

This left the Championship wide open with one day left to sail. GBR8420 leads BEL9453 by 2 points with GBR8561 one point behind and GBR8997 a further point behind.
