Squibs at the Humber Yawl Club Regatta

The Humber Yawl Club Regatta took place May 2nd to May 5th. The weather was warm and sunny with winds varying from 1 to 3, ESE to NE over the weekend.

Racing started on the Friday evening with the obligatory “Round the Island” fun race. Rules are simple - through the club start line, take the island to starboard, back through the club finish line (collecting a can of beer from the committee boat on the way through), finish when the beer is drunk at the Bar! Magic Flute just won by a head - a nice big frothy one!

Serious racing followed with races on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Magic Flute taking the honours on each day.

The overall positions going into the race were very close with RicOShea, Tom Jeffcote crewed by Mark Hogan and Helmut Schoing, Nigel Grogan crewed by Ben McGrane separated by only 0.2 of a point. Variable conditions lead to many place changes Under the able hand of Torbay PRO Bill Butcher, racing continued in conditions not dissimilar to Monday. The 46-strong fleet get the first race away on the fourth attempt The 46 Squibs launched on Sunday took part in a Practice Race and the first Points Race on Monday in a variable westerly wind.
