Berkeley Marine Cadet Europeans at Weymouth - Day 2

The competitors woke up to a dull, overcast and still Weymouth. They were held on shore until mid morning when a breeze finally arrived on the race course.

Race 4:

Race 4 saw an individual recall as the first start got away into a Westerly force 2. With the boats spread all over the course GBR8997 David Brewer rounded first from the middle of the course, followed by NED8437 Sven Oomens, GBR8522 ‘Panico’ Hugo Bull/Zoe Atkins, GBR8420 Jodie Green, and GBR8407 ‘Fantasy’ Ben Cornish/Sam Matson. By the next windward mark GBR8997 had broken clear of NED8437, GBR8420 and POL9258 Piotr Patelka. At the line GBR8997 crossed 62 seconds ahead of NED8437, POL9258 and GBR8420.

The second start saw four boats caught out by the individual recall and nine visiting boats arrive at the windward mark before the first GBR boat GBR9034 Stephen Videlo. First was NED8560 ‘Invisible Touch’ Bente Cohen/Iskander Pels Rycken who unfortunately was one of those OCS. Second was BEL9453 Yannick Lefefvre, followed by ESP8694 ‘Goofy Boat’ Borja Elies/Fernando Vazquez, NED 8411 ‘Rock Hopper’ Niels Dercksen/Leon Smit and BEL8383 ‘Albatros’ Philippe Michielsens/Nele De Munck. By the second windward BEL9453 had a 45second lead over NED9470. Third was GBR9321 ‘Lift Off’ Jamie Mayhew/Ryan Bolger just ahead of ESP8694. With the trapezoid to complete there was very close racing. First to cross the line was BEL9453 followed some 50 seconds later by CZE9470 Petr Fiala, GBR8521 ‘Gnat’ Ben Stone/Theo Bull and GBR8855 Jonathon Moss.

Race 5:

With the wind now South Westerly and dropping race 2 had a clean start. GBR8561 Tom Makey rounded well ahead of POL9462 Filip Piecha/Mareusz Kozlwski, GBR7335 ‘Hypnosis’ Peter Lawrence/Christopher Tiernan, GBR9046 ‘Get a Grip’ Andrew Twinn/Aaron Wolf and GBR8407 Ben Cornish. By the next windward POL9462 led by 50 seconds from GBR8407, GBR8561 and GBR9046. By the finish POL9462 had extended his lead to 80 seconds. Second was GBR9046, followed by GBR8407 and GBR9034 Stephen Videlo.

The second start was clean and GBR9027 Alex Shanahan rounded clear of GBR8855 Jonathon Moss, GBR8522 Hugo Bull, GBR9153 ‘Pocket Rocket’ James Wall/Erin Clark and GBR9028 ‘She who Dares’ Oliver Impey/Jack Wilson. By the next windward GBR8855 led by 27 seconds from GBR9027 who was 45 seconds ahead of GBR9028 and GBR9153. The only matter in question was whether the lead boat would finish within the 90 minute race allowance with the wind falling of all the time. GBR8855 crossed the line with about 3 minutes to spare! Second was GBR9027 followed by GBR9028 and GBR8420 Jodie Green.

This left three boats equal on points overnight, GBR8561 Tom Makey, GBR8855 Jonathon Moss and GBR8420 Jodie Green.
