GP14 Midland Bell Travellers at Nottingham Sailing Club

by Roy Nettleship 22 Oct 2007 20:23 BST 21 October 2007

6 visitors joined 6 home boats for the final round of the Midland Bell Travellers Series at Nottingham, postponed from July because of the flooding. It was a difficult day on the river for Race Officer Richard Nurse and sailors alike, with the wind vague in both strength and direction, although it became steadily more reliable through the day.

In the first race, the wind dumped the whole fleet as it approached the windward mark together, allowing John Salomonson & Seonaid Fleming who had been called OCS to squeeze through into a lead he neve lost, pursued by Ian Hankinson & Chris Morgan and Andy Johnson & Roger Law of North Staffs.

No-one could stay with Salomonson in the other 2 races, but Roy Nettleship & Sabine Schamberg kept their boat moving better in the light airs and took 2 seconds, with Hankinson 3rd in race 2 and Chris Yates & Dave Jones 3rd in Race 3.

Altogether a very good-humoured day made most enjoyable by the fine October Sunshine.
