Members of the 2004 British Olympic and Paralympic Sailing squad, including all three 2000 gold medallists, have ‘uncovered’ in ‘for Gold’ by Kos, a calendar produced in conjunction with the RYA and Sail for Gold to raise funds for British Olympic Sailing.
The calendar, shot by leading artistic marine photographer KOS, features Olympic hopefuls including Nick Rogers and crewmember Joe Glanfield, Katherine Hopson, Nick Dempsey, Laura Baldwin and also features past gold medallists Ben Ainslie, Shirley Robertson with her new crew and Iain Percy alongside new crewmember Steve Mitchell.
Shot in locations from Barcelona City to the south coast of England, the black and white images are bold and striking and for the first time depict the training and athleticism required to maintain Great Britain’s status as the world’s leading sailing nation.
Great Britain won more medals in sailing than any other sport at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Out of eleven medal opportunities Great Britain won three Gold and two Silvers which established the British Sailing Team as world leaders, a title we are still privileged to hold after four of the most successful sailing years in history.
Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy is featured alongside new teammate Steve Mitchell on the June page. Percy and Mitchell have had great success in the Star Class since Percy switched class in 2002, winning the world championships the same year, a performance they will be hoping to repeat in Athens.
The calendar also features Katherine Hopson and Laura Baldwin. Katherine, alongside teammate Christina Bassadone, sail the 470, a class Great Britain didn’t even qualify in for the 2000 Games. Not only have Katherine and Christina qualified for the Olympics, but over the past 2 years have made huge progress in what was one of Team GBR’s weakest sailing classes, including winning 5th place at the world championships last year.
Laura Baldwin is one of the most devoted members of the squad. She has the almost impossible task of following Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson into the 2004 games in the Europe class, but this has not deterred this young Olympian, who’s rise has been a remarkable journey.
The printing of “for Gold” by Kos has been sponsored by Pindar who have worked closely with Kos and her designers Marketing Matters Ltd to deliver a very special product.
The photo shoot production costs for the calendar have been sponsored by United House Ltd, leaders in housing PFI, community regeneration and residential development in London and the South East.
