Fireball Worlds on Lake Silvaplana, Switzerland - Overall

by Mirjam Hollenwäger 2 Sep 2007 09:09 BST 27 August - 1 September 2007

In the last few minutes before 3 o’clock the Gold fleet had a go, the black flag up. There was still a Northerly wind but not as gusty as yesterday, 5 to 10 knots.

First around the windward mark were Edwards/Potts (GBR). But they were overtaken by Estaugh/Gardner (GBR) later. The overnight leaders Horey/Thompson (GBR) were way back in the fleet. Estaugh/Gardner (GBR) managed to stay in front and also win the Worlds 2007 before Horey/Thompson (GBR) and Jeffcoate/Hogan (GBR).

Places 4 to 7 also went to British Teams. The followed the Australians Macfarlane/Payne in eighth and the Czech team of Kubovy/Rocek in ninth, who won the Alpine Challenge last week.

The defending World Champions, Moser/Moser (SUI) and the Swiss team Duvoisin/Grob didn’t have a good last race and dropped out of the top ten in the final results.

Tonight the Fireball World Championship 2007 ends with the official diner and the prize giving. Although the wind conditions weren’t as stable as we wished the Worlds in Switzerland are a success. The next Fireball World Championships are going to be held in Thailand in Spring 2008.

Overall Results:

1. Richard Estaugh/Rob Gardner (GBR)
2. Vince Horey/Andy Thompson (GBR)
3. Tom Jeffcoate/Mark Hogan (GBR)
4. David Edwards/Simon Potts (GBR)
