Catapult TT at Rutland Sailing Club

by Stuart Ede 24 Aug 2007 15:23 BST 19 August 2007

Breezy showers punctuated by calm spells tested the helms who competed in the Catapult TT at Rutland SC on 19 August. Going up the middle of the beat on the second lap of Race 1 proved the right tactic for Gareth Ede, and he held on to win Race 1 followed by his father, Stuart.

In Race 2 Gareth and his dad were on Alastair Forrest’s coattails downwind. Forrest succumbed to Gareth but held off Stuart to take second.

John Peperell went well left on the first beat of Race 3, and took a lead he held until the finish, though Gareth Ede pressed him hard.

Race 4 was Ede the elder’s opportunity to shine. A port tack flyer put him ahead in clear air. Meanwhile son Gareth claimed second from Dave Jennings and thereby sealed his victory in the event.

As they went into the last race, Stuart Ede and Forrest were in contention for second place overall. When the wind picked up and shifted markedly, Ede's père et fils made the right choice up the beat to make it a Filey Sailing Club one-two in the race and in the event.
