Twenty six Merlins raced over two days at Shoreham S C in the best wind and sea conditions the fleet has enjoyed for some time. Principle Race Officer Alan Chaplin set a mighty 2 mile beat to sort the men from the boys.
P&B/Musto race team members Tom Stewart and Chris Downham were first to show and rounded the windward mark first only to have Alan Warren and Liam Dempsey also powered by a full suit of P&B Sails reel them in by the leeward mark and blast away into a good lead and first race win.
Race two looked as if it would go the way of William Warren and Robbie Sampson also P&B powered up until the last 100 yds when a twenty degree wind shift played in to the hands of Glen Truswell and Paul Davies who cunningly converted a third at the leeward mark into the first of their two race wins of the weekend.
Sunday was a cracker with big wind and waves accompanied by sunshine after much place changing due to capsizes and gear failure. It was Glen and Paul Who triumphed from Tom and Chris who fought back well after Tom got out of the boat at the leeward mark!
The last race was led from beginning to end by Tom and Chris but Glen and Paul comfortable in third place (which became a second when Simon Blake and L Jenkins went for a swim).
