Dalgety Bay Sailing Club Annual Regatta Overall

by Isla Craig 29 May 2000 19:53 BST

The annual DBSC Open regatta took place on 27th / 28th May. Around 70 boats took part in a total of 4 races over the 2 days. Winds were F2-3, and rather variable in direction, causing the inevitable difficulties for those setting the courses. Close racing was experienced in all fleets, with unexpected gusts and wind shifts often resulting in several changes of leader during each race.

The Fast Asymmetric class was dominated by the RS400 fleet which favoured the fairly light conditions over the other boats in the class. At the end of the first days racing, there were 4 RS400 boats tied on points for first place!

The start of Sunday racing was delayed owing to a lack of wind. It had been hoped to squeeze a third race in on the Sunday, however this was abandoned following a spectacular hailstorm (hailstones the size of frozen peas!), and a sudden loss of wind.
