Rooster 8.1s in Minorca

We recently received an email from a fellow Laser sailor who had not realised that the Rooster 8.1 was available at Minorca Sailing Holidays Centre until the last 15 minutes of possible sailing time.
“A friend of mine, Eric Smith, and I were at Minorca Sailing last week and tried out the 8.1 rig (aka Laser Lardy) briefly. (I only had around 15 mins on it as only discovered they had it shortly before heading back home.) It is a lot of rig, even in F3, although easy to control and well-balanced. Leech flap is negligible and it looks like a great option for the lardier sailor or in light breeze/inland.
It’s a great idea and how I very much hope it catches on. I could eat instead of struggling to get down to weight and still be competitive. How many sold?
As always, the key issue will be getting enough of a critical mass of them to make for good racing.”
Rooster Reply: 79 rigs sold so far and the racing circuit is developing. Many of the sailors are currently racing them on handicap and enjoying the extra punch they offer at a trail handicap of 1051. We are hosting our first open meeting on July 1st at Thorney Island Sailing Centre. Rigs are available to hire for just £15 each or to buy for just £350, but book early to avoid dissapointment. We also have a Nationals booked for the weekend of October 13/14 at Weston Sailing Club - £15 entry – free camping. It's just up your street. Every day is a windy day with a Rooster 8.1!
