RWSABC again hosted the Scottish Albacore Championships. The turnout was disappointing, however, five races were completed, albeit in some difficult conditions.

Three races were held on the Saturday with all eyes on the visiting Canadian sailors who travelled from Toronto and were an unknown couple. They had borrowed a "tired" old Albacore from and are used to club sailing with 50 albacores. Although fourth in race 1, gear failure forced them to retire from race 2. Luckily another boat was available and they effectively restarted the regatta with a first in race 3. Taking into account the three races sailed and a did not finish in race two, still resulted in 5th overall.

Sunday proved difficult with heavy rain. Although there appeared to be a decent breeze, this disappeared forcing the race officer to postpone the race just a minute prior to the first start. The direction changed and the wind, although up and down, resumed sufficiently for the 4th and 5th race to be sailed.

RWSABC would like to thank to Cliff Lyons for use of the commitee boat, Douglas Forrester for being race officer, to Ware With All Ltd for sponsorship and Karen McGinness for photos. Finally, they would like to thank the travelling competitors, especially those from the Shetlands and Canada; their support is really appreciated.

Wind, waves and sun, not quite as much of the last of those but enough to add to the experience. The first race of the day was series race 8 and the final one for the UK Nationals. Wind dropped all day and the sea state went from predictable to sloppy At last the sun came out to greet the fleet at the committee boat with the wind as forecast at 15 to 20 knots. An epic day for the fleet! Abersoch delivered an epic day for the Albacores with a base wind of 16 knots gusting 24 knots, with a SW breeze producing proper surfing conditions. To add to some of the carnage that produced, we got controversy with effectively two winners! Posted on 1 Aug 2023
