Audi X-35 Cup at Medemblik, Holland - Event 1

by John Parker 3 May 2007 09:03 BST 29 April 2007

The first Audi X-35 Cup of the 2007 season was on 29th April. This 5 event series runs throughout the season at Medemblik, Holland. In a 20 knot easterly, the notoriously choppy Ijsselmeer did not fail to disappoint as 140 competitors on 17 boats lined up on the start line.

Quantum Racing, skippered by Nic Bol, led round the first mark and held the lead around the two lap windward-leeward course. La Dolce Vita followed, but were overtaken by Perfect Ten after they split at the leeward gate.

Off the second start, it was Perfect Ten that led the fleet. This season, five members of the RYA Volvo Keelboat Squad have joined this Quantum boat owned by the Ten Racing Group. With a sizeable lead, they placed a loose cover on the current world champions, Quantum Racing, and led to the finish.

The wind moderated for the final race and after a general recall the fleet got underway. Again Nic Bol’s boat emerged in front, and with Perfect Ten finishing 3rd, went on to win the event with 4 points to their 6. The second Audi X-35 Cup is on the 13th May.
