Etchells Worlds Qualifier at Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Cowes

by Jo Chugg 16 Apr 2007 12:02 BST 14-15 April 2007

The first weekend of the qualifying races for the Etchells World Championships in 2007 took place on 14 and 15 April. On Saturday morning the crews arrived at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Cowes for the customary ‘weigh-in’ in sunny conditions and waited for the breeze to fill in. Unfortunately this never happened and early in the afternoon the racing was abandoned for the day.

On Sunday morning, the wind was still minimal for racing and with help from all quarters, crews managed to arrange a mass tow out to the proposed race area. The sea breeze filled in from 240 deg with 5 – 6 knots at circa 1330. The race committee managed to start the first race at 14.00 after a general recall with 24 boats taking part and with a further two races being completed in similar conditions. The racing was very close with Nils Razmilovic having two wins and brother Ante Razmilovic winning the last race of the day.

All competitors had enjoyed the sailing and hope that there will be more wind in two weeks time for the final weekend of qualifying.
