Splash Open Meeting at Ardleigh Sailing Club

by Andy Turner 18 Mar 2007 20:44 GMT 16 March 2007

12 Splash dinghies came to the season’s first open meeting at Ardleigh, near Colchester, on March 17th. A fresh Westerly was blowing with conditions perfect for the more experienced sailors, and manageable for the rest.

Honours were shared in the first race with a tie for first place between Simon Barker from Norfolk Broads SC and Will Johnson from Alton Water SC, with Will Powell of Dabchicks SC third.

The wind increased slightly for race 2 which was led by Will Powell for most of the race until he was hunted down by Simon Barker. Will Johnson was third.

In the final race Ollie Gozzett, an Optimist sailor borrowing a Splash for this event, rounded in first place and held this for a while until being over-powered as the wind reached a consistent force 4. Will Johnson kept excellent control of his boat and went on to win with Simon Barker second and veteran Ray Smith third.
