A big fleet of 78 boats enjoyed a mix of breezes at Kip Regatta on May 15th and 16th. Kip is the traditional warmup regatta for the Scottish Series, and this year was sponsored by Opal Marine. Perfect conditions for the first race of moderate breezes and sunshine gave way to very light winds for the second race, giving competitors a good mixture.

21 boats made up a strong entry for Class 1, with a number of new boats in the fleet. Coming out on top was Salamander XVIII, owned by John Corson and helmed by Hamish Mackay, ahead of Sloop John T (I & G Thomson) with Absolutely 2 (Kelly, Bramall & Plummer) in third.

Competition was close in another big fleet in Class 2, with just two points separating the top three, with Howard Morrison steering Enigma home in first place.

David Lyons in Supertramp IV and Mark Taylor in Saraband took the smaller Classes 3 and 4, while the biggest one design class was the Sigmas, won by Neil McClure in the White Tub. In sportsboats, last year’s Scottish Series overall winner Ruairidh Scott made up ground on the Sunday to take the class in his 1720, King Quick.
