The Enterprise Cock of the North circuit, sponsored by Speed Sails, got underway at Scammonden Water Sailing Club on 18th April. It was welcome back to Chris and Al Fry who, after a brief absence from the circuit, ran out convincing winners with 3 bullets.

The wind was variable throughout the day moving through 120 degrees and back again giving competitors and the race officer a challenging time. The Fry brothers along with Martin and Rachel Bradley were clear away from the fleet in the 1st race only to be caught by Ges Brown and Craig Wheatley, who seemed to be sat in their own personal gust. Eventually the Frys opened up a large lead from Ges and then Martin. There was a momentous scrap for 4th place between the remaining boats with Cock of the North newcomers, Neil Ashurst and John Whittaker eventually winning out.

The second race provided a desperate beat through swirls and down-draughts to a becalmed windward mark. Neil Ashurst had the right idea sticking to the far bank and getting to the windward mark 1st. It took most of the race for the Frys and then Ges to work their way past with the rest some way behind.

The 3rd race and another new wind direction but similar placings with the Frys again winning out ahead of Ges and Craig. Mike Goodwin ad Matt Bancroft won the battle of the Scammonden sailors in 5th place recovering from a lull bound 1st race.

Scammonden is a delightful, friendly and informal club who hosted and excellent event.
