Top ten for Team GBR after second day of Mistral worlds

After two days of racing, Great Britain’s Nick Dempsey and Natasha Sturges are both lying in eighth place overall in their respective classes at the Mistral world championships.

Nick Dempsey put in two good results on the second day of racing, which took place in 10-12 knots of breeze. Scoring a fifth and a fourth he is currently lying in eighth place overall and just four points off third place. The class is currently being led by a strong French contingent, with Nicolas Huguet leading the class from team mates Samual Launay and Julien Bontemps.

In the women’s fleet, Team GBR sailor Natasha Sturges is also placed eighth overall. Sydney Olympic gold medallist Alessandra Sensini of Italy continues to lead the class from the 1996 Olympic gold medallist Lai Shan Lee of Hong Kong. Barbara Kendall of New Zealand, who won silver at the 1996 Games and bronze at the Sydney 2000 Games, is third overall.

The event continues through until the 17 April with a rest day on the 14 April. A total of twelve races are scheduled. Further information can be found on the event website www.mistralworlds.com.
