SECOND BVI SAILING FESTIVAL ENDS WITH WIND AND WINNERS
The wind gods played a little April Fools joke on the weathermen today and provided unforecast
wind for the last leg of the second annual BV Sailing Festival. Twelve to fourteen knots provided a good breeze for competitors to race back from the Bitter End Yacht Club to regatta host and presenting sponsor Nanny Cay for the start of festivities to kick off the 33rd annual BVI Spring Regatta starting tomorrow (April 2).
Not surprisingly, Roy E. Disney's Pyewacket took line honours in a course which took the boats out of the North Sound via Colquhoun Reef after a couple of mark roundings in the Sound. Then, on to West Dog leaving it to port and out past Ginger Island, Carvel Rock, Cooper Island, Salt Island and Dead Chest, leaving them all to starboard finishing off Nanny Cay.
Pyewacket took a mere two hours and four minutes to complete the course. Swan 51 Northern Child of St Peter Port finished an hour and thirty-three minutes behind her but was second on corrected time. Swan 65 Kings Legend was third. Pyewacket won Racing A overall.
Swan 44 Crescendo - made up predominantly with a crew from Australia and here just for the Regatta - won Racing B overall having won on the way up to Bitter End on Monday and placing third today to Rhumb Squall¹s first and Natural Magic¹s second.
Moorings 463 Dot Com won Bareboat A with two firsts and also took home The Moorings Sailing Festival Cup for being the best performing bareboat overall. However, it wasn¹t all plain sailing as it went to a tie-break with Frevo which also had two firsts in Bareboat B.
Rick Walker¹s Norseman 430 won the multihull class beating Javelin, Cover Shot and Dolly Grace.
