DUTCH TEAM CONTINUES TO LEAD - AUSTRALIANS LEAD OPEN INTERNATIONAL

Emotive minute of silence from all the participants before leaving the shore

Twenty-four hours before the end of the Tornado Europeans, the Netherlands team of Mitch Booth & Herbie Dercksen lead although they are chased by the French team of Oliver Backes & Laurent Voiron, who won today’s second race keeping the title open.

At ten o’clock, the participants from 20 countries and the organisation authorities observed a emotive minute of silence in respect of the victims at the Madrid bombings.

The start of the seventh race was delayed by one hour due to unsteady winds. Finally, the 51 participants found a northly force 3 (10-12 knots). The race course was set closer to Las Palmas.

The French team of Yann Guichard & Christophe Espagnon took a 1st & 2nd position respectively in today’s races, they have been training for 4 months in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Spanish team of Fernando Echavarri & Antón Paz scored an 8th & 5th position today putting them 5th overall.

The Australian team of Darren Bundoch & John Forbes have won the Open International with a 1st & 4th today.

Saturday is the last day with two scheduled races from 12 o’clock onwards. The prize giving ceremony will take place at 8.30pm, Real Club Náutico but the entertainment programme and fireworks have been cancelled due to our declared three days official mourning.
