S Australian Fireball Championship at Adelaide Sailing Club

by Robin Inns 14 Nov 2003 07:35 GMT

The first 2 races of the South Australian Fireball Championship were sailed at the Adelaide Sailing Club on Sunday 2nd November.

A fleet of 30 boats competed in strong breezes of 18 to 25 knots. Racing was close throughout the whole fleet. The first race was won by Brett Young and Allen Blenkle with John Heywood and Brett Littledike not far behind. Visiting Victorians, Garrath James and Alan Pendrigh were third. Race two was held immediately after the completion of the first race. Greg Allison and Richard Watson, after failing to finish race one, dominated the second race to lead from start to finish. Heather Macfarlane and Chris Payne (Vic) were second followed by Ben Schulz and Adam Parker in 3rd place.

Races 3, 4 and 5 will be held at Adelaide Sailing Club on November 29th and 30th.

The Fireball fleet is preparing for the World Championship to be held at Adelaide Sailing Club in January. For more information and to check the entry list, see the club web site at www.asc.com.au
