Fáilte Ireland 1720 Europeans at Howth Yacht Club - Day 2

Brisk winds favour Bourke but Powell's Hibernian continues overall lead

A first and a third place today for Tim Powell on Howth entry Hibernian places the former British youth dinghy champion in a commanding overall lead of the Fáilte Ireland 1720 European Championship with six races sailed and the first of two discards in force.

International Match Racing champion Chris Law appeared to slip from contention with a 9-10-6 score for the day dropping his Peugeot Motocycles to fourth overall from overnight second. A pending protest may affect this position later.

Taking over as challengers to Powell in second place is Volvo Ocean Race CEO Glen Bourke on Yachts & Yachting who scored a 3-4-5 today. The former Laser world champion has a 13-point gap to catch the leader with two days remaining of this eleven race series.

Today's second race saw a memorable win for the young guns on Royal Cork YC entry Donpack. David Rose led from the first mark as the overall leaders lost ground covering one another allowing him to build an impressive lead for a solid first place finish.

Fresher conditions with brilliant sunshine graced the 50-strong fleet though the tide flooding with the wind direction once more added an element of chance to the short windward-leeward courses. More wind with some rain is forecast for tomorrow.

Results after Day 2: (6 races, 1 discard)
