Cadet Worlds Promotional Fleet in Nieuwpoort, Belgium

The Cadet World Championship Promotional Regatta was held in Nieuwpoort, Belgium from the 2nd to the 8th of August. Great Britain had a fantastic turnout of 48 boats from a fleet of 77.

Race one saw Ben Stone and James Eminson take the gun from Will and James Rusden. Christopher Bailey and Joanna Freeman were third just piping David and Katrina Brewer.

Race two was dominated by Jonathan Moss and Sophie Dingwall, who took off from the start and sprinted away. Second was Victoria Cooper and Adam Hopwood, with Thomas Makey and Clare Dallimore third.

Day 2, race one, was won by Georgie Blaver-Mann and Chris Brewer. Second was Katrina Hughes and Francesca Smith with Thomas Makey third.

Race two saw Andrew Twinn and Aaron Woolf take the gun from Thomas Makey and Jonathon Moss.

Day 3 and the domination of the Promotional fleet continued with British boats holding the top 24 positions at the halfway stage. Thomas Makey led Jonathon Moss and David Brewer was third. David Brewer won the first race and was fourth in the second. Thomas Makey won the second race and was fifth in the first. The Hughes sisters were third in both races, Katrina in the first and Amelia with Taz Wichard in the second. Second in the first race was Jonathon Moss and Alex and Josephine Palmer in the second race.

Day 4. With any one of four boats looking likely to win the event, racing was very close with Jonathon Moss winning the first race and finishing 3rd in the second. Andrew Twinn posted two second places and David Brewer was 3rd in the first race and won the second race.

Day 5. David Brewer won the first race closely followed by Jonathon Moss. Alex Palmer was third. Thomas Makey won the second race from Andrew Twinn and Katrina Hughes. Stephen and Christopher Videlo were fourth in both races.

Day 6 saw one final race. David Brewer won the race from Victoria Cooper, Jack Lees-Smith/Alistair Laycock and fourth Ben Stone/James Eminson. The final placings saw British boats filling the top 25 places.

Being surrounded by hills and mountains has the inevitable effect So far the conditions on Lake Lipno have provided for excellent and challenging sailing, however being surrounded by hills and mountains can mean that the winds are shifty and can be light at time, and this proved to be the case on day 3.
