Hobie 405 Inlands at Notts County Sailing Club

by Sophie White 28 Jul 2003 13:12 BST

12 405’s turned up to a bright and sunny notts county for the 405 inlands. Problem, no wind! Despite the slight draw back of no breeze the sailors managed to amuse themselves for the morning.

As the wind filled in the 405’s took to the water and managed to sail 4 short races in the afternoon. The racing was very close between the whole fleet with Dylan Fletcher and Nick Hollis winning the 1st race. With flukey winds places were switching regularly, the key to a win was getting into the wind bands (as well as a bit of luck!).

The next race was lead by Greg Hall and Pete Wathen who pulled out a small lead and won the race. In the 3rd race Sophie White and Tom Peel had a great port flyer but lost their lead on the 2nd beat letting 1st Will Twemlow and Andy Bath through and then Dylan and Nick who went on to win the race.

The final race of the day saw Will and Andy take the lead closely followed by Pete and Greg, with Holly and Sophie Tuckwood bagging a 3rd Bright and early on Sunday morning racing started with a 3-4 breeze. The race officer craftily fitted 405 races around the club racing so luckily there were no scatty courses. With more breeze the fleet split up more and there were even a few capsizes at the back of the fleet. Again the places kept changing among the top few boats. Dylan and Nick got a hat trick of wins followed closely by Sophie and Tom in the 1st two races with Peter Gray and Simon Forbes following. Will and Andy picked up a 2nd in the last race.

After sailing, the sailors took to the small lake for some jetty jumping and boarding. Well done to everyone and especially the 4 new 405 notts county sailors who all did really well and hopefully we will see you at future events.
