2000 Sydney 40 World Cup Commences in Palma, Mallorca

Today sees the start of the 2000 Sydney 40 Worlds in Palma,
Majorca, organised by Race 1, a Solent-based grand prix race
charter company. With entries from Australia, Europe,
Holland, Italy, Japan, Spain as well as Great Britain the
four-day regatta, and second World Championship of the
class, will provide competitive and exciting racing.
Nine races are scheduled which will be Windward and Leeward
courses. Commencing at 11.00am (local time) on Thursday
30th there will be three races each day on Thursday and
Friday 31st March and one long race on Saturday 1st April.
The 2000 Sydney 40 World Championships will culminate with
two races on Sunday 2nd April. There will be no discards.

Australia
Skippered by Roger Hickman, a winner of the Sydney Hobart and twice winner of the Australian Blue Water Yachtsman of the Year. His high profile crew also includes Brad Kellett.
Europe
Winners of last year's 1999 Race 1 Sydney 40 World
Championships, the team consists mainly of the crew from the
recent Spanish America's Cup team as well as selected crew
from Germany, Holland and Italy.
Great Britain
Skippered by former Olympic sailor and co-founder and director of Race 1, Philip Crebbin. The team also includes Philip's partner at Race 1, Jonny Falkner as well as David Munge, Jarne Portman, David Tomlinson, Rick Storbart, Simon Nadin, Tom Wilson, Dave West and Peter Presnan.
Holland
Jager Wisser is a member of the crew.
Italy

Japanese
Skippered by Tommo Hotta a J24 and Yamaha 33' National Champion.
Spain
Consisting of a young group of dinghy sailors from Port Castellon with Jordi Calafat, a 1992 470 Olympic gold medal winner.
The 2000 Sydney 40 World Cup follow a successful Winter Series sailing programme, organised by Race 1 in Palma, Mallora and last week's warm-up event the Sydney 40 Mediterranean Cup. Sponsors include Douglas Gill, Hyde Sails, Spinlock, Fredrickson Blocks and Danish Harten
