Trident Enterprise Scottish Champs at Berwick Sailing Club

by Charles Morrish 27 Jun 2003 08:55 BST 14th/15th June

Sunny skies and a steady force 3 greeted the competitors arriving at the picturesque setting for the Trident-UK Scottish Champioship.

Race One saw tense and close racing throughout the fleet; a pattern that would repeat itself throughout the weekend. Lawson led at the windward mark then Derek crewing for Lawson tried to rescue a jibstick resulting in a rather fetching capsize. This allowed Ninnim/Taylor to win followed by Young/Young and Morrish/Gold.

Race Two saw Morrish/Gold lead up the first beat meanwhile in the hullabaloo of some tight racing Lawson parked his boat on the windward mark. On the final beat Morrish/Gold just lost out to Ninnim/Tayor with Young/Young third

As is the tradition at the Scottish series everyone gathered in the evening for a superb B-B-Q, Disco and a beer or two or three or more…!

Sunday was lighter with back to back races before lunch. Ninnim/Taylor led race three until a major shift had a big impact on the placings Lawson/Derek were first Ainsworth/Jackie second and Young/Young third

Race Four saw the start moved after a 75 degree windshift. Lawson/Derek led from start to finish followed by Ninnim/Taylor with Young/Stefan emerging in third

In the final race Ninnim needed to finish within two places of Lawson to ensure victory. Lawson again led the race from start to finish but Ninnim was second to take the Scottish Championship

A great weekend was had by all, in no small part due to the hard work of Alistair Macdonald and all at Berwick SC.
