Goodbody takes narrow lead after three-way tie-break in Alfa Romeo Sigma Europeans

With a flukey southerly breeze refusing to co-operate, Principal Race Officer Jack Roy was obliged to send the 46 boat fleet ashore in day two of the Alfa Romeo Sigma European Championship on Dublin Bay this afternoon. Earlier, race three of the series saw the leader group consolidate their positions with local Tim Goodbody edge ahead on the points tie-break after a three-way joint first place.

Previous overnight leader Ben Richards on Lucent is joined Kevin Aitken's The White Tub while Race three winner Alan Milton on Pepsi is also moving into contention and tomorrow should see the single discard come into play, thus creating further pressures at the front end of the fleet.

Tomorrow will see a full three race back to back programme get underway one hour earlier than normal. Near gale conditions forecast overnight could yet add to the endurance test and create a fresh set of obstacles, especially for those boats anxious to maintain positions ahead of the Gold/Silver fleet split.

One such entry is Cork sailor Neil Love on War Dance who was disqualified from Race 2 on Monday following an incident that resulted in a collision with Alan Chapple's Starshine Challenger. One War Dance crew member received hospital treatment for an injury sustained in the incident while Chapple received redress in a delayed Protest hearing that took place this evening.
