2001 Infanta Cristina Trophy for Soling sailors

by Paul Davis on 6 Mar 2001
Dear Everyone,
Do you think there are any Soling sailors in your country who would like to
go to the 2001 Infanta Cristina Trophy which will take place
at Wolfgangsee, Austria, from 10 - 14 September.

THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM ISA VICE PRESIDENT PAUL DAVIS

As you know, we have for the present time, been excluded from the five ring
circus of the olympics.
Your class association is working hard on a strategy to strengthen the
class
for the future that hopefully includes being included in future Olympic
regattas.
Our class has a great history and many great regattas and trophies.
Our premier match race trophy is our World Championship, The Infanta Doña
Cristina Trophy that has been held since 1992.
In spite of our Olympic status this event is still an ISAF World
Championship and a Grade 2 Match racing event.
The Soling class still presents the only entry level match racing that
enables top competition and allows competitors to provide their own boats.
This is the only top level match race that provides the possibilty to
qualify and compete without having to be a top ranked match racer and be
'invited'

At the same time the class is worried about the future of this kind of
event
because of the inherent costs associated with organising top level match
racing events.

We need to get an immediate response from all Soling sailors that may be
interested in competing at the 20001 Infanta in Austria and other future
Soling Match Racing events.

Can you please ask all Soling sailors in your country if they are
interested.

Please respond to DinnyReed@compuserve.com

Paul Davis
Vice president
International Soling Association
