Wind against Tide

Wind against tide…easy to say, rolls off the tongue…can be nasty in the Whitsunday’s, like a little washing machine but when you are looking for current, its tolerable.

Now move 1200 miles south and mix a hot 3 knot south, with an established western swell, coming across the Great Australian Bight over the shallow sea/land bridge between the Apple Isle and the mainland and a 30-40 knot gale from a big low south of Tasmania…. the only thing now there is common with the wind against tide from the Whitsunday’s is the warmth of the water.

At 3am off Montague Island the seas were only a metre, from the southwest at 12 knots, then as the front runners reached the corner, where the breeze accelerates…the wind came up quickly.15-20-30+, with a short seaway, no backs…not a nice place to be
