In 1953, Wild Harbor Yacht Club was organized by several North Falmouth families to bring the sport of sailing to Wild Harbor, where sailing had existed prior to World War II. On February 15, 1954 Wild Harbor Yacht Club was incorporated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. During the same year the club joined the Southern Massachusetts Yacht Racing Association (now known as Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association), the North American Yacht Racing Union (now known as the United States Sailing Association), and the New England Beetle Cat Boat Association. The club successfully converted to 501(c)(3) status in 2019. The board believes this will help position the club to meet its mission now and in the future.
Wild Harbor Yacht Club serves North Falmouth neighborhoods with a focus on youth sailing, from introductory classes for children as young as 7 years old, to active race teams for children up to 18 years old. Membership is required to participate in the youth sailing program. Over the years, the Wild Harbor Yacht Club youth sailing program has produced some of the top sailors in the Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association including four eventual collegiate All-Americans: Jane (Kirk) O'Connor, '88 '89 '90; John Fallon, '92; Tim Fallon, '96 '97; and Meaghan MacRae, '16 '17, '18.
