I was looking around and I also saw an asymetric wayfarer.
When was that developed?

The Wayfarer 'World' was basically a cockpit layout which had built in buoyancy and bailers etc. This was built by Porters and was available with either symmetric or asymmetric spinnaker options.

The latest Wayfarer was designed to overcome the shortcomings of the World, and so is easier to right from a capsize and is more visually appealing. (Phil Morrison designed).

This latest Wayfarer is available from Hartley Laminates and can be specced with symmetric or asymmetric options. Not class legal but good for sailing schools. Not hugely popular as most training schools just like a basic boat.

Show was great with some excellent boats on show.  Nice to see real used boats on the stands such as Roger Gilberts I14.  So far as downsides ....  I specifically went to join the RYA and despite them having a huge stand in the entrance, I was told that they could not take membership applications at the show and that I should go home and apply on line!!!!     Other major dissapointment was the parking .....  I was running slightly late and didn't get there until 11 a.m. (opened at 10)  Sat, by which time all parking was full and I was told to go and park somewhere in town miles away.  They did hand out an illegible map which showed no car parks! and was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, so that really tainted my whole opinion of the day having walked miles up the hill to get there and my 13 year old son had certainly had enough by the time we actually got in!  Overall, great show but wrong venue ....  any suggestions on where we could hold next years????  NEC?

Great show wrong venue has been a lot of peoples complaints for a long time. Personally I do like Ally Pally and tend to get the train rather than drive (didnt make it this year though). Were it at the NEC I would still go, probably more regularly but the cost of hiring the NEC would probably mean the tickets would be a lot more expensive.

Your probably right about NEC, but there must be somewhere large enough, bags of parking, good accesabilty, reasonably central (London to midlands range?) and therefore accesable to majority?????  .....  and not tooooo expensive.

But, let's be fair Ally Pally is far, far better than Cyrstal Palace ever used to be!

I think you would struggle to find somewhere better - yes, there are shortfalls in Ally Pally (catering - but the same could be said about Excell).

I would like to see an RYA/exhibitors lounge at Ally Pally providing food.  This may encourage people to actuallly join the RYA (Just recently got my GOLD membership card, and proud of it!!).  I got so fed up queuing for food, and then having to sit on the floor to eat it!!  Maybe I am getting old and turning into a grumpy old man!!
