Steve GTI - Just for example the laser would need gelcoating then polished to look almost invisible

if it is a 5cm scratch, which needs gelling, then it would be the time to get the colour match right, plus the time to do the actul repair.

Once the gel is on and has gone off, it would probs be about 20 mins to o a 5 cm repair

Looks like my refinish is going to be on a Solo hull/deck rather than a Laser one now as the Laser purchase fell through and a GRP Solo took its place.

Not an issue if you're doing a whole boat, but be careful buying the right shade of gelcoat for repairs. It fades over time. I needed to repair a biggish chip out of the gunwhale on my Lark & Rondar supplied a pot of pigment matched to a sample I sent them.

Well I collected my new boat yesterday. She's an all GRP solo and is much better condition than expected. The hull in particular is in very good shape and will not need a re-finish after all.

The deck however appears to have ben painted at some point. The original red gelcoat has faded to more of a dark orange and it therefore shows up quite vividly where the red paint has flaked off in a few places.

I'd like to repaint the deck and will obviously need to remove any flaking paint first.

My question for you is what can I paint it with? I was thinking a 2 part International boat paint. If I use this will I need a primer or undercoat first? Whilst it will not be in the water all the time I obviously want it to look good and be durable.

Many thanks

Chris.
