It does not need to be long - as shown in this photo. Remember over one spreader and under the other.

the main can push the trapeze wire infront of the spreader whe sailing dead downhill (no fancy assym to keep the apparent forward and main in), this is to keep the trap wire close to the mast and not pushed in front of the spreader which is then stuck when you come to use it again making you loose time trying to flick it back round.

it was one of the 1st things i did to my old container, very useful.  probably wouldnt be needed on a musto / 700.

That'll be my boat then!

Rather than go over than one spreader and under the other, I have tied a small plastic ring tightly to the front of the mast at spreader height, the elastic goes through this ring from above the spreaders. The elastic is 2 or 3mm (basically the thinnest bit I had spare) and is slightly shorter than the spreaders on each side.

Just make sure it's stretchy enough to allow you to trapeze off the back of the boat!

Thanks for the confirmation - and I like the ring idea!

Not my idea - I copied it from another Contender.

The ring is lashed around the base of each spreader to keep it in place with whipping twine and doesn't interfere with spreader adjustment.
