Apparantly members of class associations are killing sailing as we dont want to morph the boats we sail into something totally different. And if a class association decides to alter things, it becomes a "lipstick" class.

All in all, just a crock of sh*t from someone who can't understand a sport not run by corporations.

Don't talk to me about corporate interference in sailing, it was pressure from the manufacturers that destroyed small volume race board builders. They lobbied the IYRU to change a 'rule' class (Div 1)  into a 'manufacturer' class where only boards built by 'approved' manufacturers were allowed. This has resulted in there only being one builder of raceboards and prices have gone through the roof (€4.5k hull only anybody?). It's not as if they are any lighter either these days, my old Mistral Equipe II weighed 12kg (it actually needed 1kg of lead correctors to bring it up to min weight) the new Phantom weighs 13.5kg. The Phantom is reputed to be super fragile too, my old Equipe was tough as old boots. Bloody brilliant board.....

I’ll second that. I still dig my Equipe out now and again and always reminded just how amazing old skool raceboards were (are)
