F1 drivers have been wearing helmets, neck braces and fire proof suits for years; do you wear one when you drive your car?

They've been wearing helemts from the get-go with the AC45s. Things I really don't want to have to consider- I think that pipe over his right shoulder may be his emergency air supply.
 
(as a side note- are they wearing wetsuits like they do on the 45s on the 72s, or something a bit closer to normal yacht gear?)
