A huge thanks to everyone that travelled to the Dash despite the forecast. I hope you enjoyed it.

We took some photo's from the committee boat on Saturday. I've posted them to flickr if anyone's interested. Unfortunately it wasn't the best day for photography.....

Why a non discardable in a winter event like this? It's not the Olympic medal race ...

1st  and 2nd over night were wiped out ... Fair enough to weight the results towards the pursuit but its a bit of a shame for those who traveled and could not get a score in what reads to be quite fruity conditions.

Twas breezy but perfectly sailable on the Sunday.  I think a lot of people got caught out expecting a postponement that didn't happen.  RO started the sequence on time and a lot of sailors launched very late.

Isn't the Tiger's pursuit also non-discardable?

Yes it is, seems a bit of an unforgiving format for fun winter racing.

Fine to give the pursuit some additional weighting IMHO but to make it a double points non-discardable is rendering the Saturday races to be almost pointless.

I was around Draycote on Saturday and went for a bit of a sail.  The racing looked really good for the majority of the boats that had shown up- it certainly used the majority of the lake, which is surely one of the reasons for travelling- to get a bit more open space than the normal puddles for sailors congregate at during the winter.

I have to say I find the existence of the Pursuit Race bizarre though.  I'll admit to never favouring it as a format, but to weight it so heavily and make it so important, when imho, it probably puts a good deal of people off the event, well it just doesn't make sense and probably takes away from what would have been an otherwise excellent one-day event.

lol - it was blowing around 12 knots-ish by later in the afternoon.  I'm not sure, but I think it got planing... once, maybe.

I like pursuit races but I don't know why they weighted it so much.  I know you hate handicap racing but for some of us it's the only real option so pursuit races mix things up and add a bit of variety.

I think in handicap racing slower boats just go backwards because they get everyone elses sh*t wind and the faster boats that can punch clear will always have some advantage.  That is unless you've got a bandit boat perhaps.  Pursuit races let the slower boats get out in the clean air first and gives them a  better chance for once in a while IMO.

Successfully confusing ambition with ability since 1980.
