Out of curiosity how do you go about producing a female mould for foils? I understand how to produce foils from a male blank but not how to from a female mould.
Any enlightenment woukd be great

Machine them preferably out of something with similar coefficients of expansion to the proposed foil material.
Invar is a particularly good material if foils are to be Carbon.

or form a female mould from a pattern part using expensive composite tooling materials. As well as having a well matched coefficient of thermal expansion, it needs to be able to withstand higher temperatures than you plan on curing at.

(I'm not actually suggesting HexTool for this sort of thing, just showing the sort of thing that exists)

Al, what is this Hextool stuff then. I had a look at the link and it didn't explain what it was. Is it a short fibre sheet a bit like Hexfit or something else?

we use it here with our 5 axis machine, it requires a very light sand with 1200 grit then a polish and ready for moulding.
very expensive say £800 quid for a 1x1 sheet by 50 thk, but you save on the prep time also depends on what grade you use

similar to Hexfit, but optimised for tooling purposes. If you click on the links on the left, you'll get all the data (and even vidoes) with regards the two varients
