I was really impressed by how well the kite went upwind - I hadn't expected that at all. The 49er looked really pedestrian though

Yes the y fly upwind these days, one of my guys came down to race the boards one Tuesday and went through them like a knife through butter upwind.
We're trying to get some built over here with the guys I'm hoping to get my boat from. Boards that is, course racing kiteboards.

Before watching that, i thought the boats would just have it upwind because of their pointing and lose it all down wind.. 49er looked like it was stopped and i don't think a 18fter would of faired any better!

I couldnt make my mind up about that video, just made the 49er look like a kids boat not much footage of it either. Love all 3 methods of getting across the water but didnt think it was very just.

Would have been interesting to see a Tornado or Nacra 20c in the mix as well.
Rematch is 20kts as well please. Question for the kite sailors; How well do they go up wind in proper wind?

Er even faster I fear and long beyond the range of those other two boats. (They just use smaller kit and shorter lines)

Think of all the time the kites would loose untangling their strings when rafting up at the leeward mark - could a fleet of 50 kites surfers race together in the sort of format dinghies do?
Impressive speed, but I'm sure a powerboat would be faster if speed is all it is about?
