Okay, well ive been completely out of sailing since september now and i would say that i only sailed a handful of times times the whole of 2009 due to the lake being closed for over half the year, exams etc..

Due to me being out so long the 420 was sold, so this leaves me wanting another 2 person boat! As ive said in the past the big aim is the 49er, but we need something that could build up our skill level enough to make us remotely competitive in one. I know the 29er is the obvious choice but is there any other options i should consider? Something basically quite quick and fun, we'd also be sailing it either at WKSC and maybe Leigh and Lowton too.

Im 60kgs and my crew is 70kgs-ish (about 6'3 also) and we're both going on 18. Finally we would be looking to do some events etc, so something with a decent circuit and training!

Thanks a lot guys, i promise you this will be my last!

What about a b14 i am they have one the best cicuits going and training seems to be top notch the only problem is i am not sure on the weight ranges. It could be a good way of getting used to high speed and balance.

Retired now after 35 seasons in a row and time for a rest.

B14 seems the obvious choice, no issue with twin trapeezing etc, they are keen to get people into the class especially youngsters and have heard are a friendly bunch.

Other options are the I14, 505 470, all depends on what you want from a boat.

3000? There's at least one at Leigh & Lowton.

Well we all saw that coming from a mile off....

Besides considering a 29er, perhaps any of the other single trapeze double handed classes? Laser 4000's are going very cheap at the moment, and have an active racing fleet.

The B14 has a very helpful and welcoming appeal (i can definately vouch for that, with the entire class association taking time out to try and set the spaghetti that is my mast!) and competitive racing with both the brand new ovi's and the older rondar boats.

If you around this weekend and want to come up to rutland, i will be there with my B and a few of the others will be around to get you out for a test sail.

If you are set on a 49er in the long run, and want to go the yoof squad route, then surely the 29er is the way to go. If you wanting a less formal education, then go borrow as many asymmetric boats as you can, from B14 & RS800 to RS500 and all points inbetween, and see which one tickles your fancy.
2 18 year old 6'+ ers are soon going to put on weight, though - you'll be in a Flying Dutchman before long...

Gotta be an 800.

Weight will be fine for it, great circuit, easier than a
49er and a lot more fun than a 29er.

Wot about a 29er XX? Twin Trapeze, dead easy tuning, goes like stink. Big sail power. You also get a linear drag ride, just like on big sister 49er.
