The Fire sail really is a lovely sail. Hybrid is looking great too.  Thumbs Up

.. And very much more comfortable it was !  Better able to hike with conviction and simply felt (even) better.  In addition  tried a smaller sail, the 8.8m Blaze 'Fire' (smaller than std. Blaze class sail).  In breeze it was obviously less demanding upwind than the original sail but only lost a little in speed both up and offwind to the sparring partners (regular sail Blazes etc).

You want  minimal length winglets really... all other things being equal.  1) Capsize recovery is made so much easier if you can go over the hull in front of them or any larger wing for that matter (ie stay dry if you can !) 2) If you do end up in the water it is nice to be able to pull yourself back in over the minimal width rear quarter.  3) Off wind you don't need the hiking position produced by a winglet in anger like you do going upwind - also Hybrid is relatively long, and the mast is further back than most and more raked than most - you are never really fighting with this hull to keep the bow 'up' offwind - enough buoyancy in front of the mast in summary.  4) Lastly in racing boats - if you really don't need 'it' for any real reason it is just dead weight to drag around plus extra potential windage.

Doing development this way .. trying and then modifying, if needed, without short term commercially driven time limits is a revalation really.  Compromises / changes are not time pressure related so you can keep testing and prove and then hopefully improve.  Looks like Friday PM (tomorrow) is next wet test....

Out of interest does the long toestrap spacing make it difficult to “lock in”?

Looks like a fun boat

Nice addition. Looking forward to seeing it back on the water. Cockpit does look much tidier also and controls ergonomically arranged.

'Hybrid'  has not been on the water for a couple of weeks - but will be returning in a couple of days following upgrade/modifications mentioned a while back.  This was the 'comfort' plus controls stuff.  Well it is a lot more comfortable / ergonomic now and enjoys a tad more leverage as a by-product.  The boat 'as was' was a bit narrow for comfort for regular humans when hiking imo and the gunwale edge was an angular ‘edge’ – ie ‘demanding’.  All  resolved / changed to nice and comfy.   The answer was simply to add some modest  ‘winglets’ .  In addition the control line leads and fly-aways are now on the inside edge of the sides rather than over the top)
