Hi

I'm getting back into sailing after a LONG gap year(s)!

i'm trying to find a club to do a bit of club racing, but I'm finding it quite limited and wondered if you guys could point me towards one......

I've visited and rejected the following

Chester - Nice Club but River sailing and a VERY busy stretch of water

Shotwick - Seemed ok, but smack bang in the middle of an Industrial estate, and looks like fort knox! (guess its needed :-( )

Colemere - Very big fleet of single handers... Not really ideal for my small family but really nice even if we got lost finding it

Shrophire - Seemed REALLY REALLY nice, but only had 4 boats out racing?? seem to have more on 'special' days but not a good sign.... but REALLY friendly

Gresford - WOW it was TINY! but there was one guy on the water who was VERY aggressive, didn't seem to have any 'club' spirit

So before I start driving around out of the area

does anyone have any other ideas?

I was thinking of driving to Winsford and Nantwich as they seem busy on their websites.....

or does anyone know of any hidden gems

thanks
Dave

Budworth is a pretty active club and I think just about in the area you describe.

With a slightly longer drive, another option would be Bala, which is a much bigger stretch of water than any other inland clubs in the area.

Dan.... sorry wrong person

I live near to Oswestry, all bar Bala are a bit of a drive.... needs to be inland with the wife and kids.... wife doesn't really like sailing.....

really liked the look of Gresford, but...... there's sailing and then being a bit OTT, it must be common tho as most of the others sailing where talking about the one guy.... guess the old 'gentleman' rules have left that club...

Has anyone been to Bala recently? do they get a good fleet out?

I went to the Easter Regatta at Bala, a great sailing water. There were about 35 boats competing in asymmetric and handicap fleets. The D-Zero had the largest entry.
