Think mine were capsizing a Lark at uni when I was swapping boats, and
the classic after racing a big boat, boat on mooring, chatting away with
the boat next door, leant on the boom and the mainsheet wasn't jammed
off properly - I went over the side in spectacular fashion right in the
middle of the harbour with plenty of very very amused spectators ...
oh dear though, there is a long list of other ones!!!

hmm embarassing sailing stories, if you dont have them then you CANT call yourself a sailer!

The best story I've got didnt actually hapen to me but to a couple of friends I was coaching.  It was in a topaz tres (please dont buy one!!) which have an open transom.  Crew was on wire and helm falls out of back with mainsheet round her foot, this causes main sheeting in, boat accelerating and planing.  Crew thinking her helms doing a great job unitll she turns round to see her being dragged by her foot at a good 15knts. all the instructors had a good laugh at them and they havent lived it down yet

well i have an embaresing moment to rival most ive rad so far.  at mudeford when the tide is going out and there is no wind it can somtimes be a bit hard to take the boat back in.  one day we started drift outn through the run which ha da really fast current.  it was summer and as usual there were loads of tourists watchign us and taking photos and we wee powerless to do anything about it, luckily enough a small fishing boat was able to pull us back in, though once we were back on land the tourists thoguht we were stunt artists and starting asking us questyions, v. emabrassing

better that i´m telling just two of my embarrasing moments. one from my early sailing in an optimist. it was the riva cup on lake garda. my watch broke the race before so i asked a friend to tell me the time. we had a great position in the middle left front row. she told me 5 secs left and i got prepared to start. we and one brit started and we were very far away when i noticed that my friend pressed one minute too early on the watch and so we started one minute earlier. very very very very embarrassing! (by the way my coach got it all on video tape; shows it yearly on the riva cup to everybody)

other one is a nice int 14 tale. i´m sailing with my father and we had a bet running. if we capsize, the one who wouldn´t be able to free from the hook and falls in the water has to pay the whole beer the other drinks. we managed zto capsize and my father fell into the water. i´ve been so proud of my self, that i was waving around and doing a victory dance on the daggerboard that i fell from the daggerboard onto my arse, from my arse into the water. the nice guys from my club took at least three pics of the important stages of my show!

Me and my crew launched a national 12, managed to sail it through the waves off of the beach got a few hundred yards out and realised I had forgotten to take the rudder out with me and could see it lying on the beach.Very embarrasing, managed to turn boat around sail downwind with the waves behind and capsized it onto the beach landing it on a holiday makers rubber dinghy. They were not best pleased.
Needs to sail more...

At the tender age of about 16, with my brother and my then boyfriend

On returning from a fated days sailing in my boyfriends fathers 25ft sailing boat (oakleaf or mapleleaf)  IT happened

Some where in the marshes around Potton Island we ran out of water,  it was a dark but moonlit night, no worries we were well use to these Essex creeks and with all due smug'ness thought - easy, just drop the anchor before touching the bottom and wait for the tide!.... not long to wait, had a quick peak on deck and noticed  a sort of sign,  kinda cross shaped, and.....oh, how sweet a matching one on the opposite bank!
Yeep we had 'parked' on the main power cable to the Island!

Oh did I forget to mention - Boyfriends Daddy was the club Commodre

Don't know if they ever got to hear of our very SMALL panic attack!!

Great days though, much fun always had!
