Zulu looks great, and what a paint job!. Does she have a diffrent rudder or is it just the camera playing tricks??

Funny the SJ320 has been mentioned.  They are about the only thing that could tempt me away from the 762.  I know its blasphemous to say it on here  but I like em!  Having some serious fun in the F word though.  On Fridays delivery to Holyhead the 130hp mother ship couldnt keep up (displacement fishing boat mind) we just had kite up, dead downhill in 2m swell, what a buzz, and still so stable!

Off to Ireland next week.  It will be tough!

Knowing that Projectionists are always discussing spinnaker areas. I have a 48sq m unused North spinnaker to sell. Luff 9.74   Half width 5.26  Foot 5.12. If anyone interested  - nigel@rigmagic.co.uk

No, still racing... Having problems getting/ keeping experienced crew this
season, so our results have been a bit bumpy. Still really enjoying Nigel's
old Projection, but I'm finding it difficult to justify the cost having spent
so much time tied up this year. Considering an even smaller boat!

Shame you didn't have that kite for sale earlier this season, Nigel... We've
already bought a 47m kite. Brilliant! Until you come to gybe in a breeze,
that is. The small one was difficult to get the pole back in, the large one
virtually impossible. There's a good sequence of photos of us going v.
fast the wrong way during the Scottish Series...

Put an advert on the 1/4 ton class website, someone will snap it up, are we talking symetrical here?

I've been doing some racing on Filthy G. however I've lost some top crew this season to babies and New Zealand . the limited crew I struggle to get are all lightweights ... and we've had so much wind this summer ! only managed one win , that was in light airs .  Had spreaders in the water a number of times , not fast ... need some honey monsters on the rail .   was out last sat in winds close to 40 knots , light crew , fun but result not the best . managed to rip the gib halyard sheath which then got jammed up mast ....  is the gib halyard 20 metres ? , I forgot to measure it ... will pick up a new one ... at great cost no doubt . Was using 6mm but will go for a fatter one I think to stop the slipping . Had a sheath sewn over load area but that ripped off first .It was windy , we had no.2 up with one reef , no.3 is in loft , might have to dust her off , I don't like it though as you feel so underpowered when it goes light .

Crew seems to be a concern for many boats up here in Northumberland , as it is in other areas I'm sure .

still love the boat but we do struggle downwind on reaches against the melges , corks and J80 . Been looking at cruiser racers though ... sad . A few more seasons with her I suspect until I find the time to need a cruiser type .

Doug .

I would expect 6mm high tech line to be fine on the 762 - if you are having problems with slippage then there are a few other options to go for before upsizing the line which only adds cost and weight)

What clutch are you using? You might find the cam is worn and needs replacing, and in some cases you can even downsize the cam to suit the line better - For example if you have a spinlock XAS your cam might be  4-8mm or 6-12mm*

Any rigger should be able to splice a wear sleave onto your new halyard which wont rip off - sewing sounds like a bad plan as the thread will go at the first sign of some wear.

The neater option is to bulk up the line from inside by adding an extra section of core in the region of the clutch... You loose the sacrificial element of an extra cover which can be replaced when it begins to wear but the transition is almost invisable and it makes for smoother hoists and drops.

*From memory - Look it up before trusting me!

Thanks Isis ,

using XAS 6-12 I suspect .The dyneema that went had a rather soft outer and easily flattened inner which may be our prob . I found a mint 6mm halyard in garage which is a lot stiffer, not too stiff , with a much tougher outer that I'm going to try .It was pretty extreme when the other went so I'm hoping this may do the trick . If it slips I'll get my sailmaker to splice in a wear sleeve as suggested ,thanks for your info ,

Doug .

Slop, the kite looks good, trust it is serving you well.

We had a good blast a couple of weeks ago, broad reach gusting 40 knots plus, I guess we were doing 18 knots at times, but pretty close to losing the rig as we were ploughing into the next wave, despite some good weight aft. Lots of smiling faces

Bring on the autumn gales for some proper Projection sailing!!
