Masthead?! Our 45sqm kite managed to pull our rig off last season so can only imagine what a real mother would be like. Just make sure your backstays are in good nick. Personally I'd be a little worried it'd make the boat even more nose heavy in a breeze than it is at the mo.... |

Yes you heard it here first. The plan is for a 50 sqm chute with the added option to use a choker on the halyard to pull the hoist back down to the hounds. This provides the option to continue using 1 halyard and fly the frac. kite again when it is really howling. Garth and Peter have had no problems as far as im aware of going up the hoist by 600 + 700 mm respectively but unsuring the sheave is a good fit and the cut is clean into the taper of the rig. One option is to add jumpers but even then this would provide modest fore aft support. The plans im told are to cut the sheave into the crane and through the alu section taking a lot of the load into the thicker section of the crane base,Thus having direct pull from the kite and backstay respectively. We shall see how this works out when it is taken out in the windy stuff. It might mean that you have to peel to the frac kite in the windy stuff earlier when those who have a higher hoist will continue to be able to carry full sail. Only one way to find out.......

We peel up and down in kite sizes all the time. Might not be necessary in Cherub of course.......! |

Not necessary in a cherub of course... when its really windy I sometimes wish I could put another kite up, but I dont have a bigger one unfortunately.
Ive also not done it in the Projection I was sailing for a while last season. We had a couple of different kites but we werent set up for peels... |
